An idle game either respects your time or farms it
The genre has a bad habit. Progress is slowed until waiting becomes uncomfortable, then the discomfort is sold back to you as a timer skip, a doubling advert, a starter bundle. The loop still works — that is the problem. It works on people who are not enjoying it.
Deepdrift is balanced as if none of that existed, because in it none of it does. There is nothing to buy, no advert to watch, no notification pulling you back at the moment the numbers stall. What accumulates while you are away accumulates because the operation you built is genuinely running, and the only way to make it run faster is to have made better decisions with what you already earned.
If the only reason to come back is a countdown, the game has run out of things to be.

Deepdrift
An idle mining game about digging down, hauling ore up, and building an operation that keeps earning while you are gone. Break through layer after layer, sell what you bring up, and put the money back into a stronger drill, a better elevator and a deeper shaft. Hire workers and managers so the digging and hauling run on their own, then come back to whatever piled up in the meantime. Every layer down holds something more valuable than the one above it, so there is always a reason to keep going.
